Mother
Mother don't you weep for me
God knows that you did all that could be
Your life was spent trying to save mine
Now, have mercy, it's near the end of time
I see the years of labor upon your face
Your only comfort is God's amazing grace
Slavery was inward, yet outward appear
Yet you have no fear
To many days and nights spent in worry,
Children trying to be grown in a hurry,
We have only ourselves to blame,
Each time you've held your head in shame
Mother I know your strength is from above,
Thank you, for all of your undying love
Now that I have strands of gray
I can look back and understand your yesterday
Your dream of tomorrow is up above,
My dream is to cling to all your love
I see the lines creeping upon my face
May I find comfort in God's amazing grace
Mother you taught me to believe in God,
You did, you never spared the rod
I understand more now than before
You should have given of the rod much more
Mother, thank you for being my source of inspiration
With love I make this dedication
